JULIUS BABAO

As an artist and art collector, Julius began channeling his love for art to help others when he organized an art exhibit for a cause in 2008 to celebrate his 40th birthday. The Art 40 exhibit was participated in by 125 artists and was able to raise funds to build 40 homes for The Art 40 Gawad Kalinga Village in Caloocan. Through the years, Julius has continued to donate homes through art exhibit fundraising activities and to date has been able to help build 90 Gawad Kalinga homes.

In various talks with his artist friends, Julius realized that many of them had unsold works in storage either in their home studios or their home galleries. Exhibitions to display their works are limited and this also affected the financial stability of some artists who rely on their art pieces being sold to earn a living. As an art lover, Julius was dismayed at the thought of so many artworks unappreciated because there was no opportunity to showcase them. This thought is what eventually led Julius to create an alternative venue for artists to display their works for sale.

Along with his wife, Christine Bersola, Julius teamed up with like-minded artlover friends Lori Juvida and Chinkee Tan to found Art Ph as an online site where artists can showcase and sell their works. Art Ph also continues the advocacy started by Julius more than a decade ago of giving back to the community through art. Part of the proceeds from each artwork sold on Art Ph will be given to a chosen beneficiary organization.
